Quick Tip Tuesday!
Mary, this one is for you!
O.K. y’all, this is quick, simple and fun! Quick if you have a food processor or high powered blender. Simple becauce it’s two maybe three ingredients at a minimum. And, fun because you get to create any combo of your very own artisnal nut and seed butters!
I always soak and dehydrate my nuts and seeds making them more digestible so please check out my post on Crispy Nuts to find out how to do that first before making your nut and seed butter.
In this mixture I added to a food processor 2 cups of cashews, 1 cup of walnuts and 1 cup of pecans, 1 tablespoon melted coconut oil and 1/4-1/2 teaspoon sea salt…I say that because I kept pinching in the salt until it was right. Turn the food processor on and let it run for 3-3 1/2 minutes until you get your desired consistency. I will tell you that I don’t think the coconut oil is necessary since there is already so much oil in the nuts but, hey I try to sneak in extra-virgin coconut oil wherever I can!
Just scrape it out of the food processor very well into a glass jar and keep it refridgerated. It’s just so much more fun making your own and somehow it just tastes better too! So, give it a try and let me know about some of the wonderful combos you’re enjoying!

Do you think the store-bought varieties of nut butters are soaked before processing? I bet not. That makes going to the trouble to make your own nut butter especially worth it so as to avoid nutrient-robbing phytates. Sigh…. one more thing to keep up with in the kitchen! That’s the hard part about eating well; there are no shortcuts, even from the health food store!
I know Honey…I sometimes lament the same as you about how much is involved in preparing nutrient-dense foods…but then I think about the alternative. :-)
Shane, thanks! I’m so happy to have this information! Nut butter is next on the list for me, as I’m on GAPS. This will be very helpful. It’s great to know you have tried this and perfected it. Cookbooks can mean a lot of trial and error. So fun having your expertise! xoxo Mary
Thanks Mary! Let me know about some of the combinations you come up with all the glorious nuts and seeds out there!
